We've Been Doing This For Years

Our story begins long before Peters Gourmet Market ever existed in the United States. Our great Opa (grandfather), Jan Peters, worked as a grocer in Badhoevedorp, The Netherlands—back in the days before grocery stores looked anything like they do today. It was in that small shop that our Opa Neil learned the trade during the 1940s.

Back then, orders were collected personally from customers, brought back to the shop to be assembled and packed, and then delivered by hand using a special bicycle built for the job. Grocery service meant knowing your community and caring for each order with pride.

When Neil immigrated to the United States in the 1940s, he carried that knowlege and those traditions with him and eventually opened his own Shop on Grandville Avenue in Grand Rapids Michigan called Van's Dutch Imports. He passed his the business down to his sons Ed and Ernie and to many members of the Peters family. Today, we honor that legacy by operating from our retail location in Grandville, Michigan, and our warehouse in Hudsonville, Michigan—continuing the same dedication to service, quality, and family tradition.
