They are the real thing and they taste fine, but the candies themselves are not square and not wrapped in the iconic pointy paper. My fault for not looking more closely, but I didn’t even know that Hopjes came any other way. 😕 I ordered them for a celebration of life event (my dad’s favorite candy) and was disappointed that they were not exactly the Hopjes that I remembered.
Bought these for a friend of mine who’s from Belgium. She loves these!
My opa always had these, and would have one after a pipe. I adopted the habit after switching to pipes later in my life. They remind me of the "muddy water" coffee my oma would make for me as a child. Sweet and creamy, a taste of my long ago childhood.
Sadly not the same as the now discontinued Rademakers Hopjes Koffee. As the owner Cloetta won't give up the brand these are the closest to it. I'll try to get used to these but not in the same league as the discontinued originals.
